The possible Energy Building retrofitting actions applied to existing social housing may imply light or radical transformations both at the architectural and at the urban scale, thus improving internal comfort and peripheral areas values. From the analysis of different case studies on the re-habilitation of existing social housing types in Bologna, the paper shows how technological design choices may effects positively ur-ban places, renovating the relation between the built space and the environmental boundary conditions. In particular, the critical analysis has been conducted considering energy savings obtained by progressive re-cladding interventions and the consequently architectural and urban transforma-tion. Abstract

It has been also considered energy consumption decreases due to the surrounding public space improvement, considering and evaluating socio-environmental aspects.
