This paper provides a further insight on the dynamic behavior of one-story in-plane eccentric systems with particular attention devoted to the physically based comprehension of the problem. The purpose of the work is to obtain a general formulation for the estimation of the maximum displacement at the flexible side of eccentric systems on the basis of the dynamic properties of the systems. In detail, it is shown how the shift of the fundamental period of the eccentric system with respect to the uncoupled longitudinal period of the equivalent not eccentric system strongly influences the dynamic response of eccentric systems, specially with reference to the class of torsionally flexible systems.
