Abstract

The placement of dental implants in partially edentulous areas is frequently limited by inadequate bone volume of the residual ridge. Mandibular bone grafts is either a block or particulate form have been widely used for alveolar reconstruction before implant placement although the superiority of one grafting technique vs the other is still unclear. To compare the efficacy of block and particulate bone grafting techniques associated with a resorbable collagen membrabe in terms of horizontal and vertical bone formation and implant outcomes for correcting localized alveolar ridge defects. Block bone grafts resulted in more horizontal bone augmentation than particulate grafts but were more prone to resorption during functional loading.
